It's slow going for Matt Hale's appeal

White supremacist Matt Hale remains behind the bars of one of the country's most secure prisons while his self-represented appeal stagnates.
It's not clear whether anyone has visited the former East Peorian, who was sentenced to 40 years for soliciting the murder of a federal judge and obstructing justice in April, in the administrative maximum section of the Florence, Colo., correctional complex.
Often referred to as "supermax," the section of the Florence penitentiary in which Hale is being held isolates inmates from each other and the general population.
Hale's divorced parents were banned from visiting their son for a year for violating special administrative measures put in place during the murder trial. His father, Russell Hale, did not return a recent phone call seeking comment.
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed Hale is allowed five visits per month, according to bureau regulations, but would not reveal whether Hale has received any visitors since being transferred to the Colorado facility shortly after his sentencing.
Hale's appeal, meanwhile, has made little progress. No hearings have been scheduled in the U.S. Court of Appeals 7th Circuit.
